TeraLow gear replacement kits provide optimal rock crawling performance without the need for extensive labor or extreme customization. These gear sets do not require any modification of the vehicle's cross members, shift linkage or driveshaft.
Replace the native gearing in your Jeep® with gears that have been improved for off-road use by providing increased low-range reduction by about 50%.
The gear sets for the Dana #300, and #20 swap all five gears with improved low-range gears. The Dana #18 kit replaces four of the gears in the transfer case
Low-Range Economics
When evaluating your options for better crawl ratios, consider both the quality of the low-range and the economics of the solution.
The TeraLow Low231 and the Low300
provide about 50 percent more reduction than stock. That reduction means your Jeep will crawl 50 percent slower then it did without the low-range
conversion. The 4.0:1 ratio means that in low range your Jeep will move 4 times slower then
in high range. TeraLow low-range conversions give you extreme low-range control without affecting
highway driving.
The economics of TeraLow low-range conversions are much greater then those of ring and pinion
changes; Low rations are better for off roading and rock crawling, but not highway performance. A
Jeep® with a low ring and pinion ratio sacrifices engine life because the RPM's to
maintain highway speeds must be much higher. This also decreases your fuel economy. With TeraLow
low-range kits you do not lose your highway fuel economy or performance because the change affects
only the low range, not the high range. Ring and pinions cost about the same as the Low231, but
the TeraLow requires only half the labor.
Off-road TeraLow conversions extend clutch life by eliminating the need to feather or slip the
clutch on difficult obstacles. Rock crawling with the TeraLow give the advantage of being able to
start your engine on very steep inclines without using your clutch; with automatics, coming down
hill can be done without the use of your brakes.
